Why Is There Condensation On My Unit?

07/09/2018

If you are outdoors and you see a puddle of water under your unit, it is best to have your air conditioner checked as soon as possible. There are times you may notice that there is water leaking outside from your air conditioning unit, this is due to warm air circulating the evaporator coil and collects moisture that leads to excessive condensation. When your air conditioning unit reaches excess condensation, this can result to grave problems in your air conditioning unit. When things like this happen, it is best to contact your local technician to help repair your air conditioning unit immediately.

Here are the reasons why excessive condensation occurs in your air conditioner:

Dirty Air Filter

When owning an air conditioning unit, it is essential to have your air filters cleaned or replaced now and then. If your air filter is dirty, this leads to unwanted bacteria and dust circulating in the air which can lead to health problems if not taken care of. The dirt in the air filter can block the air going through the evaporator coil, which leads to the evaporator coil freezing and releasing an excess amount of water, which can damage the unit if not taken care of. To avoid this problem, take the time to change your air filter every 1 - 3 months, not only will it benefit the air conditioning unit but it will also provide clean air in the long run.

Broken Drain Pan

If you happen to own an air conditioning unit that is almost 15 years old, there is a possibility that your drain pan is starting to rust or is already oxidized. If the drain pan cannot hold in the water anymore, this can lead to the water just falling right through the pan, causing internal damage. To avoid this problem, have your air conditioning unit inspected every now and checked the drain pan if it is in excellent condition, if not have it replaced to avoid any further problems.

Condensate Drain Line Is Clogged

Another reason why it is essential to make sure that your air conditioning unit is inspected now and then is also to check if your condensate drain line is clogged. If the drain line is stuck up with dust, molds, or any forms of dirt, this will cause the water not to flow correctly and result to water leaking in your unit. To avoid this, you can have a local technician properly vacuum the blockage from the drain line.

Low Refrigerant

When you start to notice that the air conditioning unit is not cooling correctly, this is the result of a low refrigerant that can result to the evaporator coil to freeze and cause the drain pan to get destroyed due to water overflow. When the refrigerant leak occurs, it is advisable to have it repaired or change the whole unit if need be.
