HVAC To-Do List for Spring 2021

03/09/2021

With winter now gone, spring is approaching. You may have overworked your heating system over the winter months to stay warm. During spring, you won't depend on your heating system as much. Therefore, spring is the perfect time to cool off, inspect and service your HVAC system. This will ensure your cooling system is operating efficiently and correctly for the hot summer season approaching. Let us look at your spring HVAC maintenance checklist.

HVAC To-Do List for Spring 2021

Change Air Filters

It would be best if you replaced your air filters frequently to ensure you receive quality indoor airflow. Failure to replace your air filters often will result in the accumulation of dirt and dust, which will block your airflow. Clogged air filters will make it difficult for your HVAC unit to heat or cool your house efficiently, impacting your comfort and monthly energy costs.

Upgrade Your Thermostat

You can install a smart thermostat to increase your comfort and reduce your energy costs. Purchasing and installing a smart thermostat isn't enough. You have to strategically set it to enjoy these benefits. When indoors, set your thermostat at approximately 78°F and approximately 10° more when not indoors.

Fasten Electrical Connections

Faulty electrical connections will not only reduce your system's major component's longevity but also make the running of your system unsafe. Therefore, it is crucial you check the connections before your cooling system begins operating.

Clean Indoor HVAC Parts

All of your cooling system's indoor parts, such as the coils and blower fan, must be cleaned and oiled to ensure they operate correctly. Cleaning and oiling these parts will also prevent future issues from arising.

Clean Your Outdoor Unit

Typically, winter storms leave dirt, leaves, and grass around your outdoor unit that may block the air vents. Use a garden hose to clean the outdoor HVAC parts. Failure to wash your outdoor unit will cause restricted airflow in your house, thus reducing your cooling system's efficiency.

Ensure all HVAC Parts are Working

Turn on your cooling system to ensure all its components are working properly. If your unit is not heating or cooling your space to the temperature you programmed, then you have a problem with your system or thermostat and should contact an HVAC specialist.

You should also ensure that none of your system's components produce an odor or strange noises- this indicates potential issues and should never be ignored.

Check Your System's Refrigerant Levels

Since temperatures will rise as summer draws near, you have to ensure that your system operates properly. Therefore inspect your unit to ensure it has the correct refrigerant levels to cool your house effectively and efficiently.

Spring HVAC maintenance will ensure your cooling stem is running properly during the coming hot summer months. Proper maintenance will improve your comfort, reduce energy costs and extend your system's longevity.
