How Often Should Home Appliances Be Replaced?

While you may not pay much attention to them, your household appliances are a necessity to get you and your family through the average day. Unfortunately, these appliances don't last forever. If you're dealing with frequent repairs or your appliances are very aged, it may be time to consider investing in new ones before they get worse.

How Often Should Home Appliances Be Replaced?

Stove

Most stoves are constructed to last around 15 years. You'll start to notice that your stove will have uneven heating or may stop heating completely when it nears the end of its lifespan. While most aged electric stoves don't pose a significant threat to their users, gas stoves can. Aging gas stoves can result in unwanted gas leaks inside your home that can be dangerous to your health. As your stove reaches the end of its lifespan, it's best to replace it.

Dishwasher

Dishwashers are manufactured to last between 10 and 15 years. When your dishwasher is no longer cleaning your dishes effectively and has reached its older years, it's time to replace it. Putting off its replacement can end up leaving you with a plethora of dirty dishes or, even worse, an unwanted water leak in your home.

Washing Machine/Dryer

Washers and dryers are constructed to last about ten years. Not replacing an aging washing machine can end up resulting in a water leak that could flood your laundry room. Conversely, an aging dryer can end up getting too hot and damage your load of clothes. You should consider replacing these appliances when they show signs of malfunction, like small water leaks or overly hot laundry loads.

Refrigerator

Refrigerators last around 15 years, depending on their specific style. One of the most common warning signs of an aging refrigerator is its inability to consistently stay cool. Waiting to replace an aging refrigerator could end up resulting in all of the items inside of your refrigerator spoiling due to a refrigerator malfunction. If your refrigerator is over 15 years old, it's time to consider replacing it before you end up with a food spoilage issue.

Microwave

Most quality microwaves will last about seven years, depending on their frequency of use. As your microwave nears the end of its lifespan, you can expect it to have a malfunctioning keypad, an improperly sealed door, and not cook your food thoroughly. You should consider replacing your microwave when these issues first crop up.
